Disruptia
Light Beam

The Vision: The design vision was to materialise an interactive landscape that dismantled the role of light as a passive medium. Developed for the London Disruptia event, the narrative sought to align with the theme of "disruption" by placing participants at the centre of a kinetic, three-dimensional light environment. We aimed to create a space that moved beyond the boundaries of traditional observation, turning participants into co-creators who could physically manipulate and redefine the architecture of light in real-time.
The Manifestation: NeonBlack, in collaboration with Ayrton and WSP, provided the creative direction and interactive design for this Darc Award-nominated installation. We materialised a structural reality that utilised a minimalist, lo-fi material palette: high-precision Ayrton luminaires, smoke, and strategically positioned mirrors. The spatial choreography was entirely participant-driven; by interacting with the mirrors, the audience could disrupt the narrow, concentrated beams to sculpt their own light volumes. We focused on a lens-first vibrancy that emphasized the raw, tactile physicality of light and shadow, proving that profound impact can be achieved through technical simplicity and human engagement.
The Result: The installation realised a powerful, centrepiece experience that dominated the conversation at London Disruptia. By leading the creative and technical narrative, we manifested an environment that sparked curiosity and redefined the relationship between the viewer and the work. The result was a critically acclaimed success, recognised with a Darc Award nomination, and serves as a definitive example of our capability to manage inter-disciplinary partnerships to create extraordinary, human-centric lighting art.
