Tomorrow's Modern Boxes

The Vision: Working on Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes required a shift in perspective - treating the stage not as a traditional performance space, but as a generative art installation. The objective was to create a seamless, reactive environment where the boundary between sound and sight was entirely dissolved. The aesthetic was defined by a commitment to minimalism and deep texture, ensuring the technology felt like an organic extension of the music’s glitchy, electronic pulse.
The Manifestation: The tour’s visual identity was built on a live, three-way dialogue between Thom Yorke, Nigel Godrich, and visual artist Tarik Barri. We designed the environment to accommodate Barri as a literal member of the band, performing his generative visuals live on stage. Our structural approach utilised a high-resolution LED backdrop to anchor the space, while front-projection was used to cast Tarik’s live-generated textures directly onto the performers. By treating the band as a physical extension of the canvas, we blurred the silhouettes of the performers into the digital architecture, creating a shifting, immersive volume that felt both clinical and hauntingly human.
The Result: A masterclass in live generative scenography. By bridging the gap between high-end technical craft and improvisational art, we realised an environment that felt alive—constantly evolving in real-time. The result was a "lens-first" spectacle that translated with raw, cinematic intensity, redefining the relationship between a live performer and their digital world.
