Laura Marling
Song for our daughter tour

The Vision: The creative ambition was to materialise a visual narrative that mirrored the raw, poetic honesty of Laura’s solo acoustic performance. One of the most talented and engaging artists we’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with, Laura approached us with a potent vision for a show defined by three distinct visual acts: Textures, Shadows, and Modernity. The objective was to create a series of simple, evocative environments that complemented her guitar and voice without ever diverting attention from the performance itself.
The Manifestation: NeonBlack provided the creative direction and lighting design, building a structural reality around a collection of found objects and personal artifacts - including a mannequin owned by Laura herself. We anchored the stage with a vintage navigation light, using its warm, singular glow to sculpt a sense of sanctuary and timelessness. The spatial choreography was divided into three atmospheric chapters, utilizing traditional theatrical techniques to transition between intricate textures and stark, high-contrast shadows. By treating the props as architectural elements, we created a lens-first vibrancy that felt both intimate and cinematically composed, ensuring each act possessed its own unique emotional weight.
The Result: The tour realised a beautifully understated and engaging evening that remained strictly aligned with the artist’s narrative. By acting as creative co-pilots alongside Laura, we manifested an environment that felt like a natural extension of her songwriting—simple, beautiful, and profoundly human. The result proved our capability to use minimal interventions to produce high-impact visual storytelling that respects the space between the artist and the audience.
